Submit Your Work to Signet!

Signet is looking for submissions by Queens undergraduate students in the following genres:

Poetry

Fiction

Nonfiction

Critical Writing

Art & Design (including Photography)

Music & Multimedia

Miscellaneous Works

Each year, submissions will be open for the forthcoming edition until mid-late February. Our reading and reviewing period is from February-late March, and publications are distributed at our release party in mid-April.

Submissions are only accepted through Submittable, and submissions are reviewed anonymously. You can submit your work here:

General Submission Guidelines

Please remove names and other identifying information from your work.
You must be a Queens University of Charlotte student, alumni, faculty, or staff member in order to submit.
If submitting multiple pieces, submit them individually as separate documents.

Submission Guidelines by Genre

Poetry Guidelines

Accepting all forms of poetry. Experimental or nontraditional forms welcome!

Please limit your submissions to 5 poems
Accepted file formats: .doc or .docx
We accept works in languages other than English, but kindly request an English translation to accompany your submission.
Any submissions found to have used generative AI such as, but not limited to, ChatGPT, Quillbot, Gemini, Copilot, etc will not be considered for publication.

Fiction Guidelines

Accepting short stories, flash fiction, and experimental short fiction.

Please limit your submissions to 5 pieces.
Accepted file formats: .doc or .docx

Submissions must not exceed 5,000 words.

We accept works in languages other than English, but kindly request an English translation to accompany your submission.

Any submissions found to have used generative AI such as, but not limited to, ChatGPT, Quillbot, Gemini, Copilot, etc will not be considered for publication.

Nonfiction Guidelines

Accepting all forms of nonfiction writing, including (but not limited to): personal essays, academic essays, and creative nonfiction.

Please limit your submissions to 5 pieces.
Accepted file formats: .doc or .docx
Submissions must not exceed 5,000 words.

We accept works in languages other than English, but kindly request an English translation to accompany your submission.

Critical Writing Guidelines

Accepting critical essays, academic papers, and/or book reviews.

Please limit your submissions to 5 pieces
Accepted file formats: .doc or .docx
Submissions must not exceed 5,000 words.

We accept works in languages other than English, but kindly request an English translation to accompany your submission.
Any submissions found to have used generative AI such as, but not limited to, ChatGPT, Quillbot, Gemini, Copilot, etc will not be considered for publication.

Art & Design Guidelines

Accepting any medium of art and design, including (but not limited to) graphic design, paintings, sculptures, photography, and more.

Please limit your submissions to 10 pieces.
Accepted file formats: .jpg, .png, .pdf, or .tiff
Make sure submissions are 300 dpi resolution.
Include your medium, ex. sculpture, paint on canvas, etc.
Any use of generative AI must be cited alongside your submission for it to be considered for publication. The work must be your own but we are aware that many modern design software have built-in AI features.

Image submissions must adhere to the following guidelines for consideration:

File format: JPG, PDF, or PNG
Color mode: CMYK
Minimum image resolution:
Landscape images: 1500 x 1200 pixels
Portrait images: 1500 x 2100 pixels
Square images: 1500 x 1500 pixels

Music & Multimedia Guidelines

Accepting original music, songs, spoken word poetry, or spoken prose.

Please limit your submissions to 5 pieces.
Accepted file formats: .mp3, .m4a, .wav, or .mp4 files. Videos are accepted.
We accept works in languages other than English, but kindly request an English translation to accompany your submission.
Any submissions found to have used generative AI such as, but not limited to, ChatGPT, Quillbot, Gemini, Copilot, etc will not be considered for publication.

Miscellaneous Guidelines

Unsure which of the submission categories your work falls in to? Submit your work here to have it included in the Miscellaneous section of the magazine! Please note that due to the printed nature of Signet, not all forms of work can physically be included in the magazine, but we will try our best to include your efforts in some shape or form!
